Jeans and a T-Shirt

The first time I visited Black Cat Vineyard, Tracey Riechow, owner and winemaker, compared her Syrah to a little black dress.  It's the type of dress you can pull out of your closet for any occasion.  Her Syrah could also come out of the closet for any food occasion. But not every meal is an occasion (though Tracey might argue with me on that point).  As a matter of fact most meals are...well..they are Jeans and a t-shirt.  It's your meatloaf, lasagna, and....hot dogs.

So I started thinking what wines are jeans and a t-shirt.  I think it's those wines that have a low alcohol high acid profile.  Graeser, Ceja, and Stony Hill come to mind.  Stony Hill's Gewurtameiner is only 11.4% alcohol.   This wine can go with many meals..stir fry, fried chicken,or  burritos. But like jeans and a t-shirt..it can be dressed up.  All of Graeser wines are under 14% alcohol with a nice acid. The Sangiovese would be perfect with meatloaf, spaghetti, and hamburgers. Ceja makes a lovely Pinot that would have gone great with my campfire hot dogs.  But just as a pair of cute heels dresses up jeans, the right meal will certainly accessorize these fab wines.  Don't get me wrong, Black Cat Syrah would go great with a roast beef sandwich...but I would feel funny wearing a black dress with..well...flip flops
