Black Cat Vineyards
Black Cat Vineyards up in the southeast hills of Napa there is a treasure trove of little vineyards and wineries planted amidst stunning views with only the wild turkeys and deer to keep them company. One such vineyard is Black Cat Vineyard.
Black Cat Vineyards is owned by Tracey Reichow and her family. Tracey’s journey to Napa actually began in Texas where she began a career in Investment Banking. Part of her job description called for the wining and dining of important clients. It was on these occasions where Tracey discovered the pleasure of ordering and tasting fine French wines.
This inspired her to take a trip to France. During this trip she fell in love with Syrah. Throughout the 90’s she began to invest in property in the Napa Valley for the purpose of growing grapes. Finally, in 1996, she moved her family from Pennsylvania and became a full time grower.
As with many other growers, she eventually began to make her own wine in 2001, the first release came in 2004. The name Black Cat comes from the feral cat that adopted them in Pittsburgh. Tracey often uses her wine to promote and support charities for feral cats and animal shelters.
Her wines reflect the lessons she has learned over her life’s journey. From investment banking she learned that there is no success without hard work. From motherhood she learned to be nurturing and patient. The result is a wonderful Syrah. Black Cat Syrah is made to enhance food, to make it better, not the other way around. The beauty about Syrah is that it tends to pair well with almost anything. As Tracey puts it, Syrah is the “little black dress in the closet, in a pinch you can take it out and know it will go with anything, for any occasion.
